We did it! The Simms Foundation hit an all time high! This year we were able to collect and distribute 10,136 pairs of socks to those in need in our Valley!
For starters, let’s all remember why this Sock Drive even exists… Dawn Marie Simms started this project in 1989. It was a project very near and dear to her heart and it was her vision that started our annual sock drive tradition. Dawn Marie became our angel in July of 1999.
A portrait of Dawn Marie hangs in my work room and a framed photo of her has a prominent place in my home office. She is ever present and I am hopeful that she is proud of what she started.
We’ve come a long way from the days when 2,000 pairs of socks was a lofty goal!
We have been shooting for 10,000 pairs of socks for many years and that goal was finally achieved. We couldn’t have done it without many generous donors and many helping hands.
This project simply could not exist without the generosity of Mr. Douglas Simms and his entire “crew”.
Nelson and Karen Lasiter, your support is always needed and appreiciated.
Carlene Weider, you have been the glue that keeps me together when it all seems too big!
My son, Patrick and my partner, Jock, what can I say? You share me with a project that gets a little bigger every year, and yet you still give me your total support and love.
My co-workers at Gap… Year after year, without tire, you donate to this cause that means so much to me. Thank you!
Mr. Bauder and all the kids at Derfelt Elementary School. They always suprise me with the amount of socks they collect!
My friends and family across the country who support me and what we do.
Because of the generosity of so many, we were able to spread the love (and warmth) to literally thousands of people.
The organizations who received socks from The Simms Foundation Annual Sock Drive during 2013-2014 are:
WestCare Healthy Families; Matthew’s Closet; Poverello House; St. Terese Center; and Three Square.
We look forward to what the future brings… Stay tuned for more great news!
