Well, another year has come and gone, but not without our annual tradition!

We donated over 7,000 pairs of socks this year to local organizations who service our Las Vegas community. The recipients this year included Matthew’s Closet, Women’s Resource Center, Poverello House, WestCare Healthy Families and The Salvation Army. Each of these organizations provides services to those in need in our Valley. The clients range from new born babies to families struggling financially to the homeless. We appreciate all that these organizations do to help the people we call our neighbors.

We would like to take a moment to shout out to Mr. Michael Bauder and the students of Derfelt Elementary School for their continued support of our Sock Drive. Year after year, Mr. Bauder and the children of this school rally together and do a fantastic job of collecting socks and making sure the event is fun for the students as well. I am always blown away by their enthusiasm and by their dedication to the project!

I would also like to thank my son, Patrick, who never tires of shopping for, counting, sorting, boxing and delivering socks with me. His labor of love is a rare quality in young people and I am proud of his passion to help those in need.

Thank you to everyone who donates funds, socks and time to make our project a success. Most especially, Mr. Douglas Simms, for whom I owe a debt of gratitude. Without his support and the support of The Simms Foundation Board of Directors, this sock drive would not be able to provide the sheer numbers of socks it currently does. Our community benefits from the generosity of Mr. Simms in many ways and I just want to personally say “Thank you, Douglas!”.

Here’s to another stellar year,

Sally Goodrow Devine
