Sock Drive
Sock Drive 2015-16 E-mail

In 1988, Dawn Marie Simms began an Annual Sock Drive and ten years later, Dawn Marie shared the work she did on her annual Sock Drive with me. From that time forward, I have made sure that Dawn's project continued, even after her passing in 1999. In 2005, Douglas Simms was generous enough to invite me to team up with The Simms Foundation and he and the entire Foundation have been supportive of this labor of love. It is our sincere pleasure to share with you the fruits of our labor for the past year.

Thank you to all the people who help make the Dawn Marie Simms Annual Sock Drive a successful tradition year after year! For the Sock Drive 2015-2016, we collected 9,763 pairs of socks! Literally thousands of people in the Las Vegas Valley benefit from this Sock Drive every year and the recipients are always extremely thankful for The Simms Foundation's efforts.

Always, I have to start by thanking Dawn Marie's brother, Douglas, for his generous support and for allowing me to grow this project from a few thousand socks to the numbers we achieve now!

Additionally, I need to recognize the Simms Foundation Board Members. Without their support, the Sock Drive would not be the success that it is!

Each year, established partners and anonymous donors of socks and funds pull together and make this work.

This year I would like to particularly thank two new community partners: Grape Expectations in Henderson and Bonanza High School! We truly appreciate your participation and look forward to working with you again!

Dr. and Mrs. Nelson Lasiter have had a donation box placed in their office every single year and we thank them and their patients for their generosity.

Mr. Bauder and the kids at Derfelt Elementary.... you guys ROCK! They always deliver a donation box that is bursting at the seams! Mr. Bauder also enlisted his sister, Ms. Bauder from Bonanaza High School and she and her students knocked it out of the park as well!

Mercedes and Ty Hilbrecht, of the Mercedes Benz Club of America Las Vegas Chapter, Thank You! Each year, the Hilbrechts hold a Christmas party and they request that their guests bring new socks to the party.... those socks make their way to us and then onto the community. Their spirit of giving is an inspiration.

My friends from Gap in Las Vegas... what can I say? Each year, you come out and support this Sock Drive and provide The Simms Foundation with hundreds of new socks for our collection. I appreciate you all.

Lastly, I always thank my family and in particular, Jock and Patrick... your support is appreciated beyond what I can express with words.

The recipients of our Sock Drive are always eager for my phone call and are ecstatic when we arrive with our boxes of new socks.
